In my previous role at KPMG, I worked on a number of sell-side M&A transactions where private equity investors were involved. As a result, I got an excellent insight into the strategic mindset of private equity investors, which I found really interesting and got me thinking about working in this area. The opportunity to develop this strategic mindset, help identify areas in a business where we can add significant value post transaction, work closely with management teams and get hands-on board level experience are elements of the job which enticed me to work in private equity.
The opportunity to join MML was an attractive proposition for several reasons. Firstly, MML’s track record in the Irish market is unrivalled, having established itself as the most active partnership investor over the past eight years. Secondly, MML’s investment ethos and approach really appealed to me. Through tailored investments, we aim to partner with and back ambitious management teams to deliver their growth ambitions and reach the next stage of their evolution. Finally, and most importantly, it was the people. MML is a brilliant place to work, where everyone is enthusiastic about what we do and is encouraged to have an opinion. This helps to create an open and collaborative working environment.
For the past eight years I have been running my own beef cattle enterprise as a side project. It is safe to say the work is very different to the day job, however I enjoy getting out in the fresh air and spending time back in Kinsale (had to get the fact I’m from Cork in somewhere!).
